Hades is one of the twenty planes of existence, home of the Undead and ruled over by the now deceased Voblat the Rotten. It is composed of three layers, called Glooms: Oinos, Niflheim, and Pluton. The Gash between the Material Plane and Hades is accessible from the twenty-second district of Mas'o Leem.

In 101 AL, the lord Uisper led an offensive of Petitioners and slayed Voblat the Rotten.

Glooms
The first layer of Hades is named Oinos, and is a pestilent land full of diseased and dying life. It was ruled by Anthraxus, the goat-man lieutenant of Voblat, but he was slain by Uisper. In the middle of Oinos is an elevator shaft which grants passage to the second layer.

The second layer of Hades is named Niflheim, and it is a wintry land covered in snow and ice. It is inhabited mainly by poor villagers, and bands of sailing pirates that pillage them on a regular basis. Niflheim is ruled by the Serpent of Rime, Nidhogg. The passage to the third Gloom is located at the bottom of the Well of Hvergelmir.

The third and deepest layer of Hades is named Pluton. Much of Pluton is taken up by Plutos, the shifting city ruled by Voblat the Rotten.
History
When humanoids first arrived on Norn, the Lords were already present. Historians have attempted to determine the exact date that the Lords arrived on Norn through interviews with the consciousnesses present in Champions, although results remain inconclusive.

Six months before the humanoid invasion, Xarzad the Damned invaded the territory of Soz'kir the All-Scorcher, disguising himself as one of Soz'kir's lieutenants. He killed Soz'kir, making it so that her consciousness could not root itself in a humanoid.

In the year 0 AL, the humanoids of Commoil, Seyv, and Briskain stormed the western shores of Norn with the goal of eliminating all the Lords, thus beginning the war against the Lords. Kellen Felbrigg, the first person to slay a Lord, dealt the killing blow to Grulzrarrenth the Incandescent and is said to have belched fire atop the glimmering corpse of the dragon. He was the first Champion.

Theories regarding origin
There are several theories regarding the origin of the Lords and the reason they all gathered on Norn. The most common theory among scholars posits that each Lord was a sort of naturally occurring 'apex' of each respective type of creature, although this does not necessarily explain why the Lords gathered on Norn specifically.

Another theory is that the Lords are extraplanar in origin and merely arrived on the Material Plane in Norn for some reason. Some scholars believe the Lords were artificially created by some other entity, although this raises additional questions regarding who the hypothetical "Lord-creator" is and where they are now. The so-called "megafauna" explanation theorizes that at some point in the distant past all creatures were similar to the creatures we call Lords, but only the strongest single specimens survived to the present-day as Lords.

Other scholars believe that no one theory can explain the origins of all the Lords -- the constructed existence of Temetul the Inconstant, for example, implies that something created the first beetle, but Egraki the Mad could be reasoned to be the result of an extremely long evolutionary period in the harsh environment of Norn.

Lords in popular culture
The imagery and history of the Lords have become deeply embedded in Nornian popular culture, partially due to the influence of the Champion Challenge as mass media. Merchandise featuring Lords is readily available, although the popularity of each lord has varied over time, and it is sometimes debated whether the practice of selling Lord-themed merchandise is disrespectful of the tragedy of the war against the Lords.

Some examples of the Lords in popular culture include:

* The Lord War 13 animated television series
* Voblat the Rotten skull statues available in many Mas'o Leem souvenir shoppes

The Lords of Norn, or simply the Lords, are nineteen extremely powerful creatures that warred over the Isle of Norn until the year 0 AL, when the humanoids of Seyv, Briskain, and Commoil invaded. Thirteen of these creatures were killed by these humanoids, one (Soz'kir the All-Scorcher) was killed by Xarzad the Damned six months before the invasion, and the remaining five retreated somehow, possibly moving to extraplanar locations.

When a Lord is killed by a humanoid, a vestige of the Lord's power takes root in the consciousness of the one who dealt the killing blow to it. One who possesses this vestige of power is called a Champion, and the power of a Champion is also transferable between humanoids.

While there were nineteen Lords, the existence of only thirteen of these Lords are known to the general populace of humanoids.

List of Lords
There are nineteen Lords, each one corresponding to a creature type and plane. Since only 13 Lords are well-known in Norn, there are 13 months in the Nornian calendar, each named after a Lord.

Mas'o Leem (mausoleum), the Undead City, is one of the Thirteen Cities of Norn. The city proper consists of a massive constantly shifting basalt labyrinth located in northern Norn. In the Age of Lords, it was the territory of Voblat the Rotten.

The current Champion of Mas'o Leem is Maxie Tallowtwitch.

History
The origins of Mas’o Leem are currently unknown. The basalt exoskeleton of the city was present when humanoids landed on the continent’s shores. It is unlikely that Voblat’s forces, mostly mindless skeletons, zombies, and ghouls, had the finesse or intelligence to craft the rectangle, which appears to be carved from one solid piece of stone. The interior of Mas’o Leem is equally mysterious. There are twenty-one official neighborhoods in the city, each named after a different type of undead creature. However, there is a hidden twenty-second neighborhood which only becomes accessible at times when the number of necromancies performed in a day exceeds the number of deaths required to supply the theurgic energy. This twenty-second neighborhood contains the Gash to the plane of Hades. The neighborhoods are perfect squares, creating a seven by three grid within the rectangle. However, these neighborhoods swap places at random, creating a confusing tunnel network that shifts anywhere between once a week and twice an hour. In order to mitigate this phenomenon, residents of Mas’o Leem use Ariadne Threads, magical strands of rope that help pick out the most direct path to destinations you have previously visited.
SCSI Sataella (scuh-zee say-tell-uh) is a Nornian human and the current Champion of Molvomor. They work at Heim Away From Home Construction and are a Challenger in the Champion Challenge. They are human, but possess a arcanobiomechanical organ called a Sparkheart instead of an organic heart that allows them to produce trace amounts of arcane lightning. They have white, messy hair, and their shoe size is 10.5.

Their deepest desire is to construct and pilot a series of humanoid mechs larger than buildings.

They are a die-hard fan of the Lord War 13 animated television series, which feature giant mechs fighting off the threat of the Lords.

Powers and Abilities
SCSI was one of several test subjects in an experiment conducted by the Charborough Institute for Arcanomechanobiological Advancement, and as a result possesses an organ called a Sparkheart instead of a normal fully organic heart. As a result, they are capable of driving their Sparkheart to fire lightning bolts. They also use their Sparkheart as a source of arcane lightning to power their inventions, including their powered suits.

Personal Life
Family
SCSI was raised by the employees of Heim Away From Home, and so has five parents: Melissandra Blick ("Mel"), Jessica Flatwright ("Jess"), Philip Vortyz ("Phil"), Raleigh Pelt ("Ray"), and Jagriff Quince ("Jag"). They also consider other employees of the company as family, like Minnow.

There were four other subjects in the Institute's Sparkheart experiment, who SCSI considered siblings, named Ether (aether), RAID-01 (raid-one), RAID-10 (raid-ten), and PCIe (pea-kai).

Early Life
SCSI does not know who their biological parents are. They were an orphan in Charborough, and their earliest memories are from the Institute's experimental ward, where they were kept before and after the experimental surgery that prevented their heart defect by replacing their heart.

While in the Institute's ward, they mainly interacted with the experiment's researchers and their "siblings," their fellow test subjects: older sister Ether, the twins RAID-01 and RAID-10, and little sibling PCIe.

When SCSI turned five years old, the experiment ended, they were sent to the Wee Hollow For Wee Ones orphanage. After several months, SCSI was adopted by Melissandra Blick and gained new moms Mel and Jess, dads Phil and Ray, and parent Jag.

They attended high school at Weehollow Academy, and was in the same class as Cyrus Wresch, Annalie Wildflower, and Krystal Kallure.

SCSI currently lives in a basement apartment below the offices of Heim Away From Home Construction. They remain friends with and participate in the Champion Challenge with Annalie Wildflower and Cyrus Wresch.

Champion Challenge
SCSI is a participant in the Champion Challenge, and has made the following challenge attempts:

* Challenged Krystal Kallure in Keu. Eliminated in the initial stage of the challenge.
* Challenged Maxie Tallowtwitch in Mas'o Leem. Eliminated in the initial stage of the challenge.
* Challenged Shex Alguts in Molvomor. Emerged victorious in the melee, becoming Champion of Molvomor and inheritor of Iaz'odr'vhe the Hungry.
* Champions of Jamrog the Massive can wield multiple heavy weapons at once.
* Champions of Giomu the Frenzied can channel and redirect elemental energy, allowing them to cast Absorb Elements and Dancing Lights. They also gain the ability to move superhumanly quickly, gaining an Action Surge.
* Champions of Grulzrarrenth the Incandescent have been known to breathe fire.
* Champions of Iaz'odr'vhe gain a burrow speed of 20 feet, and blindsight out to 60 feet. They also gain the Mage Slayer feat.
* Champions of Koweiki gain proficiency or expertise in Perception, as well as proficiency in either Wisdom or Dexterity saving throws.
Re-manifestation of Lords
It is theoretically possible for a dead Lord to be reborn, if the Champion that possesses its power allows their body to be sacrificed as a vessel for its re-summoning. The consciousness of a Lord sometimes requests this of their Champion, although there are no known instances of such a rebirth actually occurring.
* Humbert Bilberry
Tourism
Paradeisos is designed with permanent residents in mind, but the city maintains an array of tourist destinations for visitors:
* Pegasus Hang Gliding is a popular destination for thrill seekers, and the hill is a hotspot for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding in the winter months.
* The Celestial Cineplex is the largest movie theater complex in Norn, boasting the "best movie-going experience on the continent," and features 3D documentaries recreating the lives and conflicts of the Lords.
* The Cathedral, built by Koweiki the Wise’s minions, is a domed structure filled with colorful stained glass, slanted mirrors, and murals of Koweiki the Wise's deeds. It also serves as the apartment of the Champion of Paradeisos. It is said that on clear days, the view from the top of the Cathedral stretches all the way to the smoke-filled cityscape of Charborough and the green towers of Highacre.

Infrastructure and institutional research
Paradeisos invests heavily in public works projects and many families move to the city for its highly-rated school districts.

The city has purchased many Lord-related relics from the other twelve regions in order to install them in the Corridor of Lords, a museum dedicated to the history of the Lords. The artifacts within range from the toadstool drinkware used by the pixies of Folkloure to the shell of one of the beetles of Temetul itself.

One of the former Champions of the city, Icarus Finch, sponsors archaeological digs and magical investigations in order to preserve as many pieces of the past as possible, as well as providing funding to the Pinnacle Creature Research Laboratory.

Paradeisos has also invested heavily in magical technology, and is home to the headquarters and main factory of Channel 13 Entertainment. The headquarters, a helix-shaped building that reflects golden light in waves across the horizon, dominates the skyline next to Cadrus Coliseum, the domed building where Icarus hosts his fights. The factory is tucked away on the southern side of the city, a squat building with walls of mirrored obsidian and Leo Ilirona-shaped gargoyles. Ilirona has helped the city patent new magitechnology, such as the demiplane buses that take up the space of a small car but can fit up to 75 people and the Beatific Buds, robotic cherubs that can be rented as babysitters, chaperones, or other types of guardians.

Charborough, the Construct City, is one of the thirteen Cities of Norn, constructed in the former territory of Temetul the Inconstant. It is Gothic city in the center of Norn that exists in a perpetual state of gray, where smog blocks much of the sunlight, warped gargoyles peer down from skyscrapers, and a group of armed drones serve as an omniscient police force.

Constructs
Four types of constructs populate Charborough today:

# Domestics, or "Domes," are owned by people and perform domestic tasks like cooking, childcare, and laundry.
# Municipals, or "Munis," are owned by the city, and provide public services like construction, trash collection, and firefighting.
# Corporates, or "Corps," are owned by businesses and provide services related to their operation.
# Stewards, also known as "Stews," "Soups," or "Clankers," are law enforcement constructs that report directly to the champion of Charborough. They provide services such as protecting citizens, preserving the peace, and violently capturing and punishing lawbreakers.

Some of these constructs are not complex enough to be considered sentient, and are commonly referred to as "tech" in Charborough. Nearly all Domestics are tech, while Municipals and Corporates are a mixture of tech and sentient creatures. All but the lowest-order Stewards are sentient.

History
Before humanoid forces set foot in Charborough, the land that would become Charborough was already structured into evenly-spaced grids of metal buildings.

Champion Challenge history
Charborough's current Champion is Prudence Rosamund Steele, who uses a magical prosthetic arm in combat. She is known for her draconian policies on crime and imprisonment. Past Champions of Charborough include:
* Urrakus Avernia
* Cassiel Sygyl
* Brian Lee Dunnigan
* Doodad
* Oxyn Cyclonius
* B'Neep
* Jedidiah Ironbrand
* Zarmine Avernia
* Kridula Zhusso
* Jeannette Faulkner

Institutions
Research
Charborough invests heavily in empirical research, and several research institutions exist in the city:
* The Charborough Institute for Arcanomechanobiological Advancement
* The Arcane Biology Center‏‎
* The Soulforge
* Flywheel's Rust Shack

Prisons
While most cities in Norn imprison only those deemed irredeemable, Charborough incarcerates people for minor offenses such as jaywalking or disturbing the peace. The largest prison in Charborough is Titanite. A team of wizards and engineers built this prison over the span of twenty years.

The entire prison complex is located within the yellow gemstone that the Champion of Charborough wears on a ring at all times. While inside, prisoners do not age and have no need to eat, drink, or sleep. At any given time, the Champion of Charborough carries around five thousand inmates whose sentences range from one month to four hundred years.

SCSI Sataella (scuh-zee say-tell-uh) is a Nornian human. They work at Heim Away From Home Construction and are a Challenger in the Champion Challenge. They are human, but possess a arcanobiomechanical organ called a Sparkheart instead of an organic heart that allows them to produce trace amounts of arcane lightning.
